Why add FAQ schema?
Structured data helps search engines and AI assistants understand the questions your page answers. While Google now shows FAQ rich results mainly for authoritative government and health sites, FAQ schema still helps machines extract clear answers — useful for AI Overviews and voice search (GEO).
An important update on FAQ rich results
In August 2023 Google limited FAQ rich results mainly to well-known government and health websites. So most websites should not expect FAQ dropdowns in Google. The markup can still be useful: it clearly labels questions and answers for machines. The bigger benefit comes from having the helpful questions and answers on the page itself.
How to write FAQs that help
- Use real questions from customers, sales calls and WhatsApp chats.
- Answer directly in the first sentence.
- Keep each answer to about 40–60 words where you can.
- Never add a question that is not visible on the page, because that breaks Google’s guidelines.
How to test your markup
- Paste the code into your page or the head section.
- Check it using Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.
- Fix any errors and publish.
